I've got to go. I've got to see you.
I've got to be where you are
Soaked through with the rain
Today the cold rain is seeping into my heart.
I can't think of anything but you.
Do you think that's a good thing?
On TV a serious-looking guy
Is talking about the problems our country's facing.
But the problem is, it's raining and I haven't got an umbrella.
I've got to go. I've got to see you.
I've got to be with you
Soaked through with the rain
Today's cold rain is falling into my eyes
And I can see nothing but you.
Is that a good thing?
Note of explanation: one wet October morning sitting at home listening to some music, I was wondering what to teach in that afternoon's class, when a thought struck me. Why not get the students to try their hand at translating a Japanese song into English? And what better song than the one I was listening to: Inoue Yosui's Kasa ga nai?
